These are the Julian Hakes London “Mojito” heels, a revolutionary, award-winning piece of architectural footwear designed by London-based architect Julian Hakes. This “shoe with no foot plate” consists of a single continuous loop that wraps around the foot like a twist of lime peel, supporting only the heel and the ball. Using 3D printing and injection molding, Hakes engineered the shoe to use the foot’s natural bridge (the arch) for support, eliminating unnecessary material. This iconic silhouette has won numerous awards, including Drapers Best Footwear Designer (2012), and is featured in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum.
